Film Noir meets occult horror, Unknown Armies style

It was supposed to be a simple deal: in, out and sell the goods. Sure, it wasn’t exactly legal or risk-free, but it wasn’t supposed to get you killed.

The world is now a much more confusing and frightening place. Your memories of the last few days are a mess. There is something really urgent you need to do, but no one seems to know exactly what it is. You’re not sure if you can trust your friends: some of them may be planning to kill you. Hell, for all you know, one of them already has.

And your problems are only just beginning.

Murder, betrayal and identity crises, for four adults.

GM: Scott Dorward

System:Unknown Armies

Intended Ages: 18+

The game where Murder = Extra Dice!

The game show, Hell for Leather, follows an advanced tactical military unit called the Hunters who track down and butcher contestants as they flee toward their objective. You play those contestants.

Anyone can cash you in as a prize, from the old lady behind the net curtains, to the freelance syndicates. You’re a walking lottery ticket, the answer to a man’s prayers. Eligible claimants can phone the Network with a tip-off, or just deliver your head in a sack. Last week some kid won twenty grand cus his dog found a contestant’s wrist bone in a bus wreck.

Hell for Leather is an independent RPG that uses a tower of dice to resolve conflicts. So grab your dice, spit on your palms and warm up your ju-ju. You’re about to die and it’s gonna be gruesome.

Imagine John Wayne got amnesia and remembered the attitude but not a lot else. Now imagine six of him starring in a film by a first time director who doesn’t really understand what he’s doing. Now imagine, for authenticity, they’ve filmed it in the real west but no one thought to tell the locals. Yup, you’re starting to get close. Pulp Western where attitude is everything and skill is an optional extra.

A politician reducing crime must be good news, right?

Ormes Head was once a mostly typical New England borough with a disproportionately high rate of unsolved murders. In 2008, successful small businessman Edward Rutherford was elected City Councilman on the promise of reducing crime. Last year, in an area where 230,000 people live and work, there were nine murders in total. So far this year, there have been none. Not one. Crime rates in general have fallen almost as much. People aren’t questioning this too much and an increased atmosphere of social conformity is a small price to pay for the ability to walk the streets safely at night. Isn’t it?
None of this is really anything much to do with a bunch of ordinary high school seniors. If only that’s what you were.
